Announcing the South Dakota Chislic Festival!
Uniting heritage and foods at the heart of the “Chislic Circle” of South Dakota lore - we're officially announcing the launch of the “South Dakota Chislic Festival”!
The festival, celebrating Chislic’s new status as South Dakota’s official “State Nosh”, will take place on Freeman’s Main Street on July 28 from 4 PM to dusk. It will revolve around a judged chislic competition, with top-ranked Chislic recipes receiving cash prizes and trophies. The event will also feature craft beer from across the state, as well as a variety of other activities.
“The South Dakota Chislic Festival is a fantastic example of placemaking and catalyzation of story to inspire community and economic development, says Joshua Hofer, co-founder and Community Development & Marketing Coordinator for the City of Freeman. “The legend of Chislic in South Dakota is strong, and being positioned at the epicenter of that activity we couldn’t be more excited to bring South Dakota’s new “State Nosh” to the world.”
